Reflection of Technology vs Contemporary Education

As I listened to the video about technology and learning, I think what struck me most was the remark that if we had graduated without ever having held a book or knowing how to use one, we would have been unprepared for our future. As we prepare our students, and as I think about preparing my own children for life in a technology rich environment, we are doing them a disservice if we continue to educate them with paper, pencils and white board lessons. This simply is not the society we live in any longer.

I want my own children to have all the opportunities that life has to offer and be able to go wherever the dreams, talents and abilities that God has given them will take them. If I felt that their school was not preparing them adequately to do this, as a parent, I would be infuriated! As an educator then, how can I not push myself to ensure that the students I see are getting every advantage that I can offer them in the classroom by including  technology in the lessons we do?

So, I will continue to look for ways to bring new learning experiences into my classroom and allow the students opportunities to stretch themselves musically while doing what I have always done: incorporate the other disciplines into my classroom as often as I can to improve the overall learning experience for every child.
